We Were Something More (A short story)

This is a story told from both views. The view of a girl and the boy who loved her. The view of both of their worlds as they collided together. This is a story of a night where they were something more. Because really...we all have had that night. Where we were all something more...for just a moment in time. And for that time we were at our strongest. And oh, how we shined.

We Were Something More

It's never been told this way before. Never from this view. The wind blew through her hair, tangling it, but she didn't flinch. She didn't pull it back. She simply didn't care.
I clearly remember her hand out the window. She was reaching for the sunset. She was reaching for what she could never touch. And I will never forget the light reflecting off of her eyes or the realization that she was mine. For the first and last time. Mine.

A story being told is still always a different story from different angles. But it doesn't matter which angle it is or where it's derived from, it will never change the way that he looked at me. It will never change my reflection in his wide eyes and, oh, how they were on fire!
In fact we set the world on fire that night. Our world. The one that we've come to know as ours at least. It was red and blazing as we laid out on the hood of the old polished up black car, staring out at the moonlight on the water. I only remember one song on the radio though many were playing, and that was because it was one of my favorites.
I couldn't think of anything but him and how he felt so close. I still remember his smell. And he consumed me. Every inch, every fiber. And the consumption altered me. And when I was altered I grew brighter and brighter. And the brighter I grew the more radiant I became. The stronger I became. And I need that strength. for the day we let each other down.

But that night...
That night...
We were something...

For the first and last time...
He...
She...
Was mine.

And we were the best that we could ever dream.

She Talks To Doves

It's always something that reminds of a new song to write. It doesn't matter if it's a bird, rain, a streetlight, building, or 3 of my 4 inspirations. My husband John, 6 year old son Steven, or 4 year old daughter Jewel. My daughter and I were sitting on the porch the other day watching the storm and she was talking to me about how she talks to morning doves and how they always talk back to her. My fingers instantly searched for a pen and paper. And I wrote her a little song called "She Talks To Doves." I hope you like it!

She Talks To Doves

Fresh morning light/
Everything is just right/
And innocence shines/
Bright in green eyes.

Long brown hair/
With red stained lips/
Hands in the air/
Blowing the perfect sky a kiss.

And she talks to doves/
And they listen when she speaks/
Her words wrapped with smiles and bare feet/
Tied up nice and neat/
Innocence is hard to keep/
But she makes it seem easy/
When she talks to doves.

Pink Rose petals/
And juice in mason jars/
Laughing in the backseat/
The sun going down on the car.

And she talks to doves/
And she listens when they cry/
She writes songs/
About birds in the sky.
Flying like she does/
When she thinks she's got wings/
And even on rainy days/
You can still hear her sing.

Mockingbird (Acoustic)

Here's a video just for fun! Previously about a week ago I uploaded the lyrics to "Mockingbird" (a song that my daughter and I wrote and have had fun with.) Here's the song acoustic version of that exact song.

Just as an added note I apologize for the quick ending...my kids started fighting so I had to play referee:) It looks like the song timed out just in time!

I'd like to note that in "Awakening Iris" the songs and poems are also written by me and I invite you to check the book out. It's the first of several! "Awakening Iris (The Dreamcatchers Saga #1) you can find it on Cressenbooks.com and it gives all the links for it! Also find me on facebook or goodreads!

None the less, I hope you enjoy it! Have a good day followers and friends!

Forever Kiss

Forever Kiss

The clock stops at 11:56/
An ancient story, a forever kiss/
The gold trim never questioned it's hands/
The seconds ticked by until they made time stand.
And still it stayed, and still it called/
So we stay frozen so we don't fall/
The wind blows through the trees/
It plays with the swings and rustles the leaves.
The clock stops at 11:56/
It's something that won't move...
Something that we can't fix...
Something we might not even miss...
Mixed with an ancient story and forever kiss.

Forgotton Letters From Iris...

Justifiable lies wrapped around your ego and you only justify them so that you can sleep a little easier at night. And you drink. You drink and tell your stupid, pathetic, unbelievable lies and they seep like poison through your veins and drips from your lips. What's really sick is how you can look another right in the eyes.

And you drink...
Dressing a little trashy with thick make-up, tall tale stories and whiskey on your breath gets you by...so you think. But it can't be to satisfying because still... you reach for another drink.
And another.
And another until bitterness covers me and I hate you. Until the bitterness makes sure that I hate everything about you. Until I hate what you say and what you do. Until I hate everything that you are and miss everything that you used to be.

Broken bottles, broken mirrors, broken hearts, broken people, and a broken home in a cracked, unraveled world.

Streaked reflections, pale skin, and tired eyes. Dreamcatchers hang, floating in the air and they all have his eyes, his memories, his voice...while I try to sleep at night, walking that empty, wet, streetlamp lit sidewalk every...single...night. Machines beep, the lights go out, the T.V is on silent and no one is watching...and you don't care. It's all a common act, a false pretense from slurred speeches...

And you drink again, and again, and again, over and over until I can't stand to hear your voice or be in the same room as you. And we slip still back into our bent selves in a cracked and unraveled world.

Behind The Dreamcatcher

My fascination for dreamcatchers originated from a young age. I grew up around them and searched for them in shops, and at fairs and festivals. My mother and grandmother new well of them though I don't remember ever seeing many in the house.

I loved how they so easily came together in such a beautiful way and how one dreamcatcher could look so much different from another. I loved how the fur would wrap itself around the webbing so perfectly and how the soft feathers would hang so delicately.

The webbing in itself amazed me, it was stitched together so well. I was thrilled at the fact that from now on it would be watching over me as I slept and my dreams as well. I knew very well the story of how the dreamcatcher captured the dreams and at first I never doubted it's brilliance.

Not long after my discovery (at still a very small age) my dad started making them. I watch for as long as it took from start to finish and swore to myself that I would remember how to do that so I could make my own one day.

I recall one day he handed me one and told me that it was for me. And it was my first dreamcatcher that I had ever owned (that I can at least recall) and I remember it being so very and purely snow white. I was absolutely thrilled and insisted that he hang it up above my bed right away. As I would say my goodnight prayers I would just stare at that beauty every night before I went to sleep. And it stayed there for quite some time. Then I just remember one day it being gone. And with myself being so young I don't know where it went though I often wish at times I had that old white dreamcatcher back.

Before I go on with my story I should mention that one of my middle names is Comfort. Comfort Nickita to be exact. My mother named me Comfort after a "Twilight Zone" episode where a woman changed into a black panther at night. Now I will continue...

Several years later at about the age of 14 or 15 my mom brought home with her a dreamcatcher that she gave me as a surprise. It's black, but instead of webbing in the middle it's a picture of a wolf looking into water and the wolfs reflection is a young woman. She said it reminded her of my middle name Comfort and wanted me to have it. And I still have it...to this day. In fact it's hanging up and I'm staring at it right now:)

Now over the years as some innocence was tarnished and my reflection of past days had become a little more murky, I realize that dreamcatchers don't magically banish bad dreams. I should know that...I've had my fair share. But none-then-less it has never stopped my love for them and the hope that just maybe they can redeem themselves one day, or the thought that maybe they have saved me from some of the more horrible dreams that could have slipped through that webbing at night. After all, helping control my dreams has to be a full time job!

And still, every time I pass one I have to pick it up and I believe that my family, including my husband, is secretly thankful that I had forgotten over the years how exactly my dad made those dreamcatchers. Then we'd all be in trouble!

So here's to the dreamcatchers in every corner of my room and dangling from the ceiling. And here's a thank you to the ones who have opened me up to their world. And now you know my story behind the dreamcatcher and the base of what started it all.

Mockingbird (a song written by me and my little Jewel)

Mockingbird

Mockingbird sing me a little song/
Make it seem right in the midst of all the wrong.
Mockingbird sing me another song/
Sing it high into the sky all the day long.
Dear Mockingbird, tell me, won't you tell me a joke/
Tell it to the one whose heart is broke.
Dear Mockingbird, Oh please, don't you dare/
Don't tell anyone that you saw me here.

Because I came here on my own accord/
They warned me of you but I got bored.
They all said that you'd talk to me/
But that you'd tell lies and make me believe.
Mockingbird, I need some advice/
Instead of a flip of a coin and a roll of the dice.
Mockingbird please teach me to sing/
Mockingbird, send me some wings.
Send me some wings.

Mockingbird, I see nothing wrong with you/
But talk is talk and it's so damn cheap too.
Mockingbird, please make me smile/
He took it when he left back some while.
Oh dear Mockingbird, let's keep us a secret.
Don't tell anyone that we've ever met.

Mockingbird, please sing me to sleep/
When my eyes close, keep me under your wings.

It's funny, yesterday my daughter and I were doing some yard work, shoveling some dirt outside when I saw a big bird just flying right across the sky. And the woods were filled with birds just singing little songs to eachother. So this song came to mind and I just started singing it, putting it together. And then Jewel (my four year old daughter) jumped in and started singing it, so we went upstairs and I picked up my guitar and we made ourselves a little song. So this one has a nice memory my friends. I hope you like it. Maybe soon Jewel and I will sing it and post for you <3
