Lies Around The Lips

Lies around the lips/
A truth you never miss.
The truth of deception/
A work of art/
There is never an end/
And never a start.
With a shut up heart/
You believe your own fables/
You fill the slate dirty/
And hide the cards on the table.
Always a trick up your sleeve/
You create a new name/
You create new friends/
Wrapped in beauty and flames.
Tied up in barbed wire/
The strangled list keeps burning/
Of all of the ones who have cared/
Of all of the ones that you're hurting.
Lies around the lips/
You never listen, just keep on talking/
You run your mouth so much/
You can't see where you are walking.
You fell into a pit/
That looks a lot like paradise/
But the bottom is filled with snakes/
And the side jagged knives.
I just wanted the truth/
The sun was still shining/
But you blocked it with rain/
And created your own lightning.
Now the rain still falls/
It pours in my dreams/
The bridge is burning higher/
And you can't hear all the screams.
Lies around your lips/
And a truth I'll never miss/
You've mastered the art of deception/
And sealed it with a kiss.
The poison drips...

A Piece In An Illusionists Game

A Piece In An Illusionists Game

A willow tree is hiding, shading me in leaves while a dreamcatcher is in view, haunting my every thought until the only ghost that I see anymore is you. The sky is turning gray. There is nothing left to say now so we stand in awkward, lonely silence while a whippoorwill sings a mock tune.

Fragmental pieces of a picture, broken, shattered like mosaic, rainbow glass. I took the best of you and you left all the rest of me behind uncovered, cold, and dirty.

Shades are drawn. Summer twilight hour, a quarter till ten. We are an illusion. Just connective energy circling in the air working together to create a masterpiece. We constantly look for something; anything to matter to us to try to fill voids. We repeat patterns and routines, missing the same people and speaking the same words in the same exact conversations that we had the day before.

I've been here before. I've dreamt this before. I've seen you before. Missed you, and loved you before today and will continue to tomorrow. I'll rip away the very best of you while you callously tear away all the rest of me. Because you pull out a piece of humanity and truth. We both take away something real...and living. Real and haunting...

We remember what's real and sink into the freshness of a forgotten feeling before the illusion comes back to play. Before the fear comes back. Before my courage is drained...

But while the illusion lies, reality speaks. I'd rather speak and feel truth in a mess reality then live as a transparent piece in an illusionists game.

We Were Something More (A short story)

This is a story told from both views. The view of a girl and the boy who loved her. The view of both of their worlds as they collided together. This is a story of a night where they were something more. Because really...we all have had that night. Where we were all something more...for just a moment in time. And for that time we were at our strongest. And oh, how we shined.

We Were Something More

It's never been told this way before. Never from this view. The wind blew through her hair, tangling it, but she didn't flinch. She didn't pull it back. She simply didn't care.
I clearly remember her hand out the window. She was reaching for the sunset. She was reaching for what she could never touch. And I will never forget the light reflecting off of her eyes or the realization that she was mine. For the first and last time. Mine.

A story being told is still always a different story from different angles. But it doesn't matter which angle it is or where it's derived from, it will never change the way that he looked at me. It will never change my reflection in his wide eyes and, oh, how they were on fire!
In fact we set the world on fire that night. Our world. The one that we've come to know as ours at least. It was red and blazing as we laid out on the hood of the old polished up black car, staring out at the moonlight on the water. I only remember one song on the radio though many were playing, and that was because it was one of my favorites.
I couldn't think of anything but him and how he felt so close. I still remember his smell. And he consumed me. Every inch, every fiber. And the consumption altered me. And when I was altered I grew brighter and brighter. And the brighter I grew the more radiant I became. The stronger I became. And I need that strength. for the day we let each other down.

But that night...
That night...
We were something...

For the first and last time...
He...
She...
Was mine.

And we were the best that we could ever dream.

She Talks To Doves

It's always something that reminds of a new song to write. It doesn't matter if it's a bird, rain, a streetlight, building, or 3 of my 4 inspirations. My husband John, 6 year old son Steven, or 4 year old daughter Jewel. My daughter and I were sitting on the porch the other day watching the storm and she was talking to me about how she talks to morning doves and how they always talk back to her. My fingers instantly searched for a pen and paper. And I wrote her a little song called "She Talks To Doves." I hope you like it!

She Talks To Doves

Fresh morning light/
Everything is just right/
And innocence shines/
Bright in green eyes.

Long brown hair/
With red stained lips/
Hands in the air/
Blowing the perfect sky a kiss.

And she talks to doves/
And they listen when she speaks/
Her words wrapped with smiles and bare feet/
Tied up nice and neat/
Innocence is hard to keep/
But she makes it seem easy/
When she talks to doves.

Pink Rose petals/
And juice in mason jars/
Laughing in the backseat/
The sun going down on the car.

And she talks to doves/
And she listens when they cry/
She writes songs/
About birds in the sky.
Flying like she does/
When she thinks she's got wings/
And even on rainy days/
You can still hear her sing.
